The Dyslexia Isn't So Scary Scarecrow Competition is here to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need of dyslexia therapy. Dyslexia isn't scary, but having 40% of our high school graduates not proficient in reading is.
For just $150, you can create a unique scarecrow to showcase your imagination and/or for just $100 you can sponsor a school or nonprofit! As a bonus, we will create a unique downtown for all the great events that Meridian Main Street is putting on this month.
What's Included in the Scarecrow Kit: Each kit comes complete with a base consisting of two posts, a sturdy base, and a bucket labeled with your business logo. Showcase your brand and support a worthy cause.
Payment is easy and flexible. You can contribute through PayPal (staff@illuminationsdyslexia.com), Cash, Check, or Money Order.
Have your creation on display by October 1st and we will celebrate you all month! Winners announced at the pub crawl on Friday, October 27, 2023. If you do not have a downtown business, we will have a window for you to display in for the month.
Voting begins October 24th at Candy Crawl and closes at the pub crawl. The entire community will have the chance to vote for their favorite scarecrow, and win incredible prizes. One vote per email via QR code.
🎃 Are you ready to embrace the spirit of giving while having a blast with your team? The Dyslexia Isn't So Scary Scarecrow Competition is here to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need of dyslexia therapy. With every dollar raised, we're helping children who can't afford dyslexia therapy get the support they deserve.
🧡 Your Contribution Matters: Another week of vital therapy for a child in need is paid with every scarecrow sold. By opening your space to these community leaders during the downtown candy crawl, you're directly supporting both education and local businesses.
📚 Why It Matters: Dyslexia is a learning disability that affects around 20% of the population. Unfortunately, it often goes unidentified and untreated in public school systems. By supporting dyslexia therapy, you're bridging this gap and empowering children to reach their full potential. Federal research reveals that dyslexia's impact extends far beyond the classroom, affecting adult life, self-esteem, and employment prospects.
🎈 Let's Make a Change: Step up, get creative, and be a part of the Dyslexia Isn't So Scary Scarecrow Competition. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children who deserve a chance to shine. Support literacy, support the arts, and let's think, imagine, and create a brighter future for everyone!
Let's show that Dyslexia Isn't So Scary when we come together as a community! 🌟
The Meridian Museum of Art group, Vino and Van Gogh, put together this unique "bucketful of scarecrows." Each represents a famous artist. The crowd loved the creativity and use of materials.
The Meridian Museum of Art (MMA) is housed in the historic Old Carnegie Library building, which was constructed in 1912-13, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a Mississippi Landmark. The Museum seeks to promote and support the art, artists, and art programs of our area and region through art education, exhibitions, collections, collaborations with other organizations, special events, and community involvement.
It is free and open to the public.
One of the sponsored scarecrows came in second place. Till Newell Animal Hospital sponsored our fellow non-profit, PLFC and their creation, "Rugged Camper" won over the crowd.
The mission of Pine Lake Fellowship Camp is to provide an environment that draws people of all ages and of diverse backgrounds into renewal of spirit, soul, and body and into reconciliation with God, creation, and each other.
It was neck and neck for quite a while, and this creep fellow was leading the way at several points in the competition. Weidmann’s was serving up the scares with their scarecrow.
The oldest restaurant in Mississippi, Weidmann's was established in 1870 by Felix Weidmann, a Swiss immigrant who was a chef on a transatlantic steam ship. The present location has been in operation since 1923.
We could not pull off an event like this without you! We are looking for 2023 sponsors.
Support these businesses! They support nonprofits!
